One dead, two police injured in early morning shooting

SPRINGFIELD — One person is dead and two Springfield police officers are injured after an officer-involved shooting on Olympic Street in Springfield Sunday night.
The two police officers, who have not yet been publicly identified, are being treated at McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center and their injuries are not expected to be life threatening, according to Springfield police Sgt. Brian Humphreys. The name of the deceased person has not yet been released, pending next of kin notification.
The incident occurred at 8:52 p.m. on the 3900 block of Olympic Street. According to Humphreys, the officers were involved in a short vehicle pursuit with the driver, before the officer-involved shooting occurred. The area was closed to traffic during the investigation Sunday night.
