ABINGDON, Va. — A Bristol woman is wanted in connection with a pursuit which happened on Saturday.
According to Washington County, Virginia Sheriff Fred Newman, dispatch received a call at 4:40 p.m. from the Dollar General store on Benhams Road in reference to two women in the store shoplifting. Police said one of women exited the store after refusing to allow management to check her purse for stolen items. A deputy then gave orders to the woman to stop in the parking lot of the store but she got into the driver seat of a 2002 Honda Civic. The deputy then approached the passenger side and told her to stop. However, police said she put the car in reverse and backed up quickly turning the front of the vehicle in his direction. The vehicle came to a stop briefly, before accelerating and almost striking the deputy as she fled the parking lot.
The deputy then chased the woman on Benhams Road and onto several other roads in the lower end of the county before entering into the City of Bristol, Virginia. The pursuit continued through Bristol until it reached the Tennessee line where deputies terminated the pursuit.
