A man believed to have led police on a chase in southwest Houston shot and killed himself Thursday night, police said.
The pursuit started near Blue Ridge Drive near Hillcroft Street around 9:35 p.m. after the man ran a red light, police said. An officer tried pulling over the man’s vehicle, a white SUV, for a traffic violation but the driver allegedly sped off.
The chase lasted about three to five minutes, with speeds up to 90 mph, said James Jones, an assistant chief with the Houston Police Department. A tire on the vehicle blew off during the chase, which ended when the driver veered over a medium and crashed into a wall along Main Street, near Summer Ridge Drive.
