CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Police say an officer has been injured by a hit-and-run driver in Cedar Rapids.
The crash occurred around 11:20 p.m. Saturday as the police cruiser sat behind another vehicle that was going to be towed. The police officer was out of cruiser so could hear an oncoming car skidding and could get out of harm’s way. Police say the officer opened the car’s passenger door after the car struck the cruiser, but the driver accelerated backward, knocking over and briefly dragging the officer before speeding away.
The officer was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The officer’s name hasn’t been released.
No arrest has been reported.
